Brother Bluff – love your top ten list. Tell me about your Clynelish 14. What was it about Clynelish 14 that put it on your Top Ten? And, do you still have some?!?
I still have 1/4 bottle left. I was surprised by how much I enjoy it. I was expecting something super peaty after I tried the Signatory bottling at Sam’s a few years ago. Instead, this distillery bottling is full of fruit, floral notes, and some salt, dry and smoky on the finish. It’s more consistent with what I’d expect out of a Northern Highland malt. I want to go head-to-head, Clynelish 14 vs. Highland Park 18, but I’ve depleted my HP 18 stock.
I did a head-to-head against the Ledaig. I think the Ledaig is quite nice, but the Clynelish is so much more of an interesting, complex malt that I rate this higher than the Ledaig 15. I think what makes this such a nice find is that at $35 bottle, the value is substantial This can be a standard for me along with Laphroaig 10 and the Macallan 12.
Oh my! What an impressive endorsement. The Clynelish people would be happy to read your posting! I’m impressed that you are mentioning it in the same context as HP 18. That’s all I really need to know. At $35 I consider it a must buy. Click here to buy it at Binny’s for $36.99.
